The Fashion Interview: Barbara Grotto

Hello lovelies
I think that you already understood that I like making little interviews, especially to great women who know how to rule the work world and to succeed in it, so after the amazing Gilda Koral Flora here and talented Cosmina Suciu here today it's the turn of the fabulous Barbara Grotto, Head of Communications for Gas Jeans !
Another strong woman to admire, who put all her passion and professionalism in her work for a big brand such as Gas Jeans.
But now I leave you to sweet Barbara's words...

1. Barbara Grotto, you are GAS Jeans Head of Communications, tell us a little about yourself to introduce you to the readers.
I was born in 1974, breathing deeply the scent of denim!
My father at that time had recently established the company that bears his name in Chiuppano, in Vicenza province near the Asiago plateau, and one of my earliest memories as a child are the tall stacks of jeans ready to be shipped piling up in the lab under the house. I think I always knew that sooner or later the jeans would become my second skin, literally and figuratively!
After I graduated from Istituto Marangoni in Milano, one of the most important European schools of fashion design, I attended a master's degree in marketing and communications at the LUISS School of Management in Roma and in 2001 officially joined the GAS JEans company.
The first assignments were small but important projects within the area of product marketing such as the rationalization of the collection lines with their draft labeling and packaging.
Gradually, I started to take care of the Communications trying to capitalize on all that my mother had built in the years in which she directed it, and at the same time, starting to bring my personal touch.
After a few years of hard work, made mistakes, small successes, and some sacrifices, why hide it, some fears, in 2004 the company has entrusted me with the leadership of the Communication Department, a role that I play again today but that, in fact, today is not enough to define the areas and projects in which I'm involved.
The most beautiful and meaningful moments of my career still relatively short were the prize "SPOT AND FASHION" La Kore - Fashion Oscar in 2004 that took place in Taormina, for the innovative advertising campaign "GAS, it's true," the first that I followed from the beginning to the end, and the initiative in 2009, on the occasion of 25 years of GAS, that had involved 15 creatives for 25 days, who have lived and worked within the company for the realization of "25 Days, a project of real life. " A project in which I believed and I have fought with my whole being.
Now approaching the 30th birthday of GAS, who knows what we will combine!

2. Pitti Immagine Uomo 2013 has recently ended, what you bring back as luggage of this experience?
What I noticed in this edition of Pitti was the massive participation of buyers and foreign press. In particular I was struck by a small but significant presence of buyers from South America, an important area because they represent potential customers, attentive to what is the Italian product.

3. GAS contains within itself the combination of fashion-engines, how was born this partnership with Honda, which lasts since 15 years?
GAS through numerous and important sponsorships, has always been close to the sports world with which it shares the fundamental values: optimism, passion, dynamism, determination, ability to challenge their own limits in order to give the best of themselves.
The history of successful partnership between GAS and motorcycling started in 1996, when the company finds out as one of the most spectacular and loved by young people sport. Since 1998 GAS is proud to be among the main sponsors of the Repsol Honda Team and , since then, continues to be on the podium with the best drivers in the world.
Honda and GAS are related by the high quality and great innovation of their products and the agreement that unites us is a source of satisfaction and pride. Mick Doohan, Alex Crivillé, Valentino Rossi, Nicky Hayden, Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa and Marc Marquez today are champions in the runways and in life: young people who had a dream and strive every day to achieve it. They are testimonial of the values and lifestyle of GAS, a source of continuous inspiration.

4. The beginning of 2013 saw the undisputed success of wondrous Gas Jeans Pop-Up, which surprises have you in the hat for your cherished for next season?
Our Pop-Up Jeans is a new and amazing product that has not yet ceased to amaze. For next season there will be some changes that will soon be revealed. Stay tuned!

5. The sea is the symbol of the collection for GAS Jeans P/E 2014, which will be its characteristics and its salient features?
The seaside theme is declined for the 2014 summer collection in its infinite suggestions and influences from the rigor of the uniforms to marinate sporty look inspired by the sailing, the glamour of the cruises of the past to the flavor work/vintage inspired clothing of the port workers until the light-heartedness of the understated look typical of a day spent on the beach.
The pieces feature a nautical theme colors, white, red and blue in varying shades, from the most switched to the more liquid and diluted, the graphics and prints lines, anchors, knots and sea creatures, the technical materials on the one hand or very experienced on the other one, all interpreted in a fresh and contemporary key, in pure GAS style.

5. Aside from the sea, from which you've been inspired for this new collection?
The denim is the heart and soul of the brand GAS. For this most important part of the collection the trend of the season sees a major return to the authentic denim and the origins of the "Canvas of Genova."
The garments have a very rough and worked aspect with a retro feel, as if they had been worn for years of effort in the work of the harbor workers.
Shades of indigo explore all the nuances of the sea: those of the Mediterranean, from light to dark blue, and the more tropical ranging from aquamarine for the woman and green bottle for the man. A perfect appeal to the theme of the season with a Summer and holiday taste.
It is a clear quotation to sailors' clothing the use of the canvas vertically striped bicolor declined on jeans and denim shirts, both for male and female, and as a proposal of a real pin-up that consists of a skirt and a dress tube, a Chanel jacket and a bustier top.
The reference to the nautical theme is also visible in the details: from salpe reminiscenting of the sounds of shipments by sea or details that reflect the tone of jeans, colored buttons in tone or contrasting, to the wires printed in shades of blue and light blue.

6. Which will be the item of the Spring/Summer that will absolutely not miss in our closets?
The blue color of the sea and then of the Summer but also the color of GAS par excellence! In all its shades ranging from navy, blue, and planes up to the turquoise andthe shades of aquamarine leading to the green of the tropical seas.

7. GAS is a young and fresh brand that knows how to renew itself from year to year, which is the goal that you have set for this 2013?
One of the next goals, remaining in the sports metaphor, it is the victory of one of the riders of the Repsol Honda team! At this time Marc Marquez is in 1st place and Dani Pedrosa on the 2nd. Things could not run better so we just have to keep our fingers crossed!
As for the business, we continue to keep our eyes on statistics and, in particular, on developing countries such as China, India and Russia, where GAS is opening up many new flagship store, but also Mexico, Bulgaria, Middle East and Korea where we have recently signed agreements with key partners.

It also continues our work to complete the offer of GAS in a view of lifestyle and total look, after the launch of underwear collections, bags and accessories, is enriched by the new beachwear line that we have launched in recent days in Firenze at the International Trade Fair Mare d'Amare. It is a complete line for both men and women composed of costumes and beachwear functional and sophisticated, coordinated with the colors, patterns and details of the main collection and denim with the DNA of GAS. We are constantly looking for new opportunities to expand our product offering and who knows that by the year we can not announce other news!

Thank you so much to the lovely Barbara and I really wish all the best for her and GAS Jeans <3

Bisous
yours Carolyne O'

Ciao dolcezze

Bisous
la vostra Carolyne O'
